We currently offer two types of liquid filters:

- The simulated diamonds fall quickly due to their weight, creating bigger light halos

THE GEM FILTER

- Gold flecks fall slowly, creating smaller light halos

HOW DO THEY WORK?

Most filters work by using natural or artificial light that is pointed directly at the lens. You can use sunlight, a flash, or even the LED on your phone. This light generates the desired effect once it reflects off our filters

Lens and halos

The size of the halos will be determined by two factors. The first is the type of filter; the simulated diamonds of The Gem will produce larger halos due to their size, while The Midas Touch halos will be more abundant but smaller.

Lens and Halos

The halo size also depends on the focal length of the lens. Here's an example using The Midas Touch filter.

As the focal length becomes wider, the halos will be smaller, and vice versa. *For lenses that are below 50mm and for wide angle lenses some circular marks may appear around the edges of the images due to the filter design.

Storage and Temperature Guidelines

Liquid filters may be sensitive to freezing temperatures. Store in a warm, dry place for optimal performance.

MORE TIPS AND TRICKS

  • Don’t use a lens hood because the light needs to enter the lens to create the halos.
  • In order for the halos to be visible the background needs to be darker than the area where the halo will appear.
  • When the lens is tilted (not held at a 90 degree) the diamonds in The Gem filter will fall more slowly. The greater the tilt, the slower the descent.
  • Diamonds are heavier and fall faster at a 90-degree angle. To make the diamonds visible from this angle, we recommend using the Zoom Burst technique but instead of rotating through lens, rotate the filter quickly. This will cause the diamonds to move, allowing them to reflect light and achieve the desired effect.
